A Picnic At Hamilton Pool

Since Jack and I first moved to Austin, we’ve loved exploring all of the local natural springs and watering holes. The heat here in the summertime is no joke and the best way to beat it is by getting around some water. A few weeks ago, we took the day off and spent a lovely afternoon hiking and picnicking at Hamilton Pool. For this post, we’re partnering with Bota Box to share our little local adventure....

Avocado Almondaise Tartines Recipe

I’m having a hard time looking at this recipe and not talking about the weather. I realize… weather not a crowd-pleasing topic, but I just can’t get over the gorgeous-ness that is happening outside of my window. (If you’re a fellow midwestern transplant, you understand my excitement). I also can’t get over these bright little tartines. Oh, and this sauce. It’s along the same lines as some of the cashew-based sauces I’ve made, but it’s also somehow entirely different....

Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe Vegan Option Included Edible Garden

I generally don’t make fruit milkshakes or smoothies unless I have excess amounts of fruits I need to use up. But this mango banana milkshake was really a wonderful weekend breakfast for TH and I. I got the idea to use coconut milk in my milkshake to make it vegan, from Dassana of Veg Recipes of India. I experimented with a bit of coconut milk and didn’t mind the taste so went with it on day one....

Best Green Smoothie Recipe

This healthy green smoothie is my latest breakfast obsession. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know that I go in and out of breakfast kicks. I’ll eat one type of food every morning for a few weeks before moving on to the next phase. I’ve cycled through muffins, eggs, overnight oats, hot oatmeal, porridge, and more, but I have to say, this green smoothie kick might just stick around....

Boozy Root Beer Floats Recipe

Let’s cut to the chase – I love root beer floats. Oh, by the way, this is Jack posting once again. That’s not to say that Jeanine doesn’t love root beer floats, but when we got an opportunity to work with a beer company that brews alcoholic root beer, I knew I would be writing this post. The first question I had, of course, was “boozy root beer? Is it good?...

Chena Ulli Theeyal Ulli Theeyal Recipe Theeyal Recipe With Yam And Shallots Edible Garden

Chena is a pretty popular Kerala ingredient and I love almost anything made with it. Its hard to get fresh chena in Singapore and usually the ones I see are huge and unlike back home, you can’t buy just 250gm by cutting off a chunk. You either take the whole thing or don’t. Shallots or ulli, are another star in Kerala cuisine. Its mostly crushed and added to dishes or added whole in gravies like theeyal....

Chicken Biryani Recipe Make Biryani In Pressure Cooker Edible Garden

Amma and I made this biryani together and apart from slicing the onions and preparing the ingredients, it’s quite hands off. If you get chicken pieces cleaned and prepared, even better. I bought 6-7 piece of chicken drumstick (the leg pieces) and we were good to go. Since it wasn’t part of the plan to make the biryani, a few ingredients are missing but I have added notes for all you can adapt and prepare accordingly....

Curried Lentil Salad Recipe

This lentil salad recipe is my ideal winter lunch. It’s fresh and filled with veggies, but it’s hearty and satisfying at the same time. Curry spices and a zippy cilantro lime dressing infuse it with bright, bold flavor, and cubes of roasted paneer cheese and crisp turmeric cauliflower give it unexpected complexity and texture. Furthermore (yes, there’s more!), it’s flexible and easy to make, and it still tastes great after a few days in the fridge!...

Dosa Batter With Urad Flour Rice Flour No Grind Dosa Batter Edible Garden

I was telling Amma the other day about how it’s been challenging to get my dosa batter to ferment in Sydney, even in the summer. I follow the usual trick of leaving it in the oven with the light on and there are some signs of fermentation to be seen the next day but not as much as I am used to in Singapore and India. Somehow this conversation turned to making dosa batter with urad flour and rice flour....
